Abdulrahman Elbayouk was tragically killed in a crash with a lorry on the M56 – he was a junior doctor who worked in a coronavirus ward

The junior doctor has died in a crash on the M56 as tributes were paid to the “selfless” man who was fighting coronavirus on the front line.

Elbayouk was on his way to check on someone who was unwell when he crashed on Saturday night, his heartbroken family has confirmed.

He was off-shift at the time and was tragically pronounced dead at the scene at junction 3 for Gatley, in Greater Manchester, at around 9.45 pm.

Abdulrahman’s Renault Clio hit a Highways Maintenance lorry parked on the hard shoulder, Manchester Evening News reports.

A 57-year-old man and 35-year-old man were taken to hospital with minor injuries, and both men have since been discharged.

No arrests have been made and inquiries remain ongoing.

Abdulrahman worked at North Manchester General Hospital and was described as a “great man” who was “full of positivity”.

 Family 

In a statement released on behalf of his family, his brother Omar Elbayouk told Manchester Evening News: “No words can describe what we are feeling right now. Abdulrahman was the rock of our family.

“He was the perfect son and brother, always looking out for us and putting our needs before his.

“His smile was infectious and his actions were always selfless. He made every person that crossed his path feel special and taken care of.

“His presence will be sorely missed but we pray he is in a much better place.”

 Tribute 

Abdulrahman had moved from his hometown of Rugby to study at the University of Manchester around seven years ago.

Good friend Ahmad Balhawan said: “He was a great man, full of positivity. It moved a lot of people in Manchester, this news.

“He was here to work. He was into all sports, he inspired a lot of people in the community, in a lot of mosques. Elbayouk was a doctor, he was on the frontline. I cannot imagine what his family is going through.”

Abdulrahman was a religious man and taught the Quran at Masjid Salahadeen in Fallowfield.

A spokesman for the mosque said he was much loved by the children he taught and will be missed by his class and the community.

In a statement, the mosque said: “Certain people in life embody positivity, optimism, and hope. They empower and lift those around them, benefiting both the community and their akhirah.

“We are grieved at his passing, and so very sad for the void he leaves behind for his family and friends. However, we bear witness and are comforted by knowing Abdulrahman has returned to his Creator with mountains of good deeds and an incredible legacy.”
