Tyler Rios is accused of abducting his ex-girlfriend, Yasemin Uyar, and their 2-year-old son, Sebastian Rios. He was arrested in Tennessee for allegedly kidnapping his 2-year-old son; prosecutors said Saturday — as the boy’s mother was reportedly found dead.
He is 27 years old.
On Friday, New Jersey State Police issued an AMBER Alert for 2-year-old Sebastian Rios after he did not show up for daycare and Uyar did not arrive for her scheduled shift at work.
Rios, of Highland Park, New Jersey, allegedly abducted Uyar and Sebastian.
The father and son were found in Monterey, Tennessee, early Saturday, about 15 hours after police issued the AMBER Alert. Sebastian was unharmed.
Uyar’s remains were later found in a nearby wooded area.
Rios is charged with first-degree kidnapping for allegedly abducting the boy. Charges connected to Uyar’s death are pending against him, prosecutors said.
Friends of Uyar said Rios had a history of abusing her and that she had a restraining order against him.
Rios remains in custody in Tennessee and is awaiting extradition back to New Jersey.
Tyler Rios Arrested
Rios is accused of abducting both little Sebastian Rios and the boy’s mom, 24-year-old Yasemin Uyar, of Rahway, the Union County Prosecutor’s Office said in a statement.
The Putnam County Sheriff’s Office reports that they were contacted at around 3 a.m. Saturday by law enforcement in New Jersey regarding the Amber Alert, Tyler Rios may harm one of the individuals thought to be with him. They were also told he might be driving a silver 2018 Ford Fiesta.
According to PCSO, at around 3:15 a.m., Monterey Police officers and Putnam County deputies located the car at the Bethel Inn Hotel in Monterey. They then verified that Tyler had rented a room.
Tyler refused to come out after law enforcement contacted him, so they made forceable entry and took him into custody. His 2-year-old son was also found in the room unharmed.
The PCSO says Tyler led authorities to the deceased body of his son’s 24-year-old mother at a location inside the Monterey city limits on Highway 70.
Tyler is currently being held in the Putnam County Jail on a felony fugitive charge without bond. Additional charges are expected from the Union County Prosecutor’s Office in New Jersey.
The FBI is also investigating this case.
