Thom Scher, the President and Chief Executive Officer of Beyond Type 1, is being reported to have passed away as per a statement by the company on its official social media accounts.  Beyond Type 1 leading nonprofit organization changing what it means to live with diabetes. Before becoming CEO in 2018, he served for three years as COO. He will be remembered as a long-time volunteer across several charitable causes, including healthcare, education, and social justice.


His age is unclear.


Thom Scher’s cause of death has yet to be made public. Beyond Type 1 wrote a statement on Facebook confirming his death on December 5, 2021. The statement reads,

“Beyond Type 1 is saddened by the unexpected passing of our president and CEO, Thom Scher. He was a charismatic colleague, mentor, and friend to all of us at Beyond Type 1. We will honor Thom’s memory by continuing the important work he championed on behalf of all those living with diabetes.”

Carrie Adkins wrote in a tribute, “We are absolutely shattered, but we need to let you all know that our brother, Thom Scher, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on December 3. Thom was an incredible brother, uncle, and friend. We loved him with all our hearts, and we’re shocked and devastated by this loss. We will keep everyone updated on arrangements; in the meantime, we’d just ask for a bit of space and privacy while we try to process all of this. ”

Education & Career

Beyond Type 1 was co-founded by Nick Jonas, Juliet de Baubigny, Sarah Lucas & Sam Talbot in 2015. It focuses on education, advocacy, and the path to a cure for Type 1 diabetes; beyond, Type 1 has grown to include programs for those with Type 2 diabetes. A new model of philanthropy, Beyond Type 1, aims to change what it means to live with chronic illness.

Thom earned his undergraduate degree in Political Science and Communications from Stanford University, and for his high school, he went to Murrieta Valley as per his Linkedln.
