Tedi Fanta Hagos from Swansea has been charged on suspicion of the murder of a 60-year-old man in Oxford Circus on Thursday night.
As well as murder, Hagos has also been charged on suspicion of possessing an offensive weapon.
He is 25 years old.
Police attended the scene near the junction with Regent Street shortly before 8 pm on Thursday, July 1, after receiving reports that a man had been stabbed.
The victim was rushed to hospital by London Ambulance Service, where he later died.
The victim’s family has been informed of the tragedy and is being supported by specially trained officers.
A post-mortem to determine the exact cause of the man’s death will occur shortly.
Police are continuing to appeal for information into the attack.

Tedi Fanta Hagos, of no fixed address, is charged with the murder of Stephen Dempsey outside the Microsoft store in Oxford Circus on July 1.
The 25-year-old is also charged with possession of a knife.
Fanta, who has a previous address in Swansea, appeared at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Saturday.
The defendant, dressed in a grey tracksuit, was assisted by an interpreter during the hearing.
He was remanded in custody to appear at the Old Bailey on Tuesday.
Police said the victim’s next of kin had been informed and supported by specially trained officers, and a post-mortem examination will be scheduled in due course.
The victim was found injured following the incident in Oxford Circus, near Regent Street, at around 8 pm on Thursday.
Officers attended along with London Ambulance Service and London’s Air Ambulance.
The victim sadly later died in hospital.
Police on Friday described it as a “random, unprovoked” attack, and a murder investigation was launched.
Speaking on Friday, Detective Chief Inspector Vicky Tunstall from the Specialist Crime Command said: “This is being treated as a random and unprovoked assault, and we are not actively looking for anybody else in connection with the incident.
“I would like to reassure the public that he is not believed to be linked to terrorism.
