Svetlana Sorochinskaya, from St Petersburg, died shortly after giving birth to her son Kirey, days after her dad died and days before her mother was also killed by the virus
Authorities in Russia are to decide the fate of a ‘miracle’ baby born to a woman who died the next day from Covid-19.

She was 36 years old.
Svetlana Sorochinskaya Died
The boy’s mother gave birth to him as she lay on her death bed attached to a ventilator in St Petersburg, Russia.
Svetlana Sorochinskaya is believed to have caught coronavirus while visiting her father Kirey Pinchin, 64, in the hospital where he had undergone heart surgery.
He died from Covid-19 on 5 November, eight days after he was discharged from hospital.
At the time of his death, Svetlana posted: “My daddy … you were the best, kindest man in this world
“I will love you forever.
“You didn’t have enough time to see your grandson.”

A short while later Svetlana went to a maternity hospital to give birth.
When her Covid-19 was confirmed she was sent to a leading infectious diseases hospital.
Three days after the dental clinic administrator was admitted she gave birth six weeks prematurely to her son while attached to a ventilator.
The child was named Kirey, after her late father.
Hours after giving birth Svetlana died.
Before the new mum lost her life her mother Vera had also become seriously ill.
Baby Boy
Currently the baby – released this week from the hospital – has been taken to an orphanage while the guardianship authorities and possibly a court decide his future.
Svetlana was aware of her father’s death and named her unborn child after him, Kirey.
‘The baby is healthy,’ said Alexander Popeiko, spokesman for the children’s ombudsman in St. Petersburg.
The boy had required treatment in the hospital until this week.
Divorcee Svetlana had refused to name the father of her long-awaited child.
Husband
The man claims that divorcee Svetlana had desperately wanted a child and secretly chose him to father her baby on the understanding he would play no further part in her or the child’s life.
He says the dental receptionist had not told doctors the father’s identity and had not intended to declare a name on the birth certificate.
But he decided to step forward after learning that she had died and so has a distant relative of the baby – setting up a tug-of-love between the pair.
Both want to raise tragic Svetlana’s child.
