Samuel Yeager was shot and killed in a confrontation with sheriff’s deputies near Interstate 25 south of Denver, authorities said.
Douglas County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded at about 6:15 p.m. Saturday to a report of a man with a gun near an on-ramp for the interstate along Happy Valley Road, the sheriff’s office said.
He was 23 years old.

The sheriff’s office responded to reports of an armed man in that area north of Castle Rock around 6:15 p.m. Saturday.
The sheriff’s office did not say what happened after deputies arrived, only that there was “an officer-involved shooting,” and the man was dead at the scene.
Officials said Yeager died in the shooting but did not specify who shot him. It was unknown if Yeager fired at deputies.
No other injuries were reported. A hometown for Yeager was not provided.
The shooting occurred about 25 miles south of downtown Denver in an area with numerous rural subdivisions.
Entrances to the interstate along Happy Valley Road were closed as investigators worked the scene.
The sheriff’s office said Sunday morning that the coroner’s office identified the man as 23-year-old Samuel Yeager.
The DCSO said the investigation was ongoing and that more information would be released on Monday.
The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office said that the deputies involved would be placed on administrative leave per office policy.
The I-25 ramp at Happy Canyon Road was closed in both directions for several hours, and the main entrance into the Happy Canyon neighborhood was closed due to the shooting investigation. Residents were notified of this through a code red alert.
