A man who toured schools and nurseries showing off his massive collection of Smurf dolls has been exposed as a vile child rapist.
Robin White, of Hartshill Road, Hartshorne, became so synonymous with his hoard of blue dolls he dubbed himself “Papa Smurf”.
In 2017, White, whose birth name is Michael, embarked on a world record attempt, claiming his 10,000 items of Smurf memorabilia was the largest collection in the world.
But a jury has today heard disgusting details of his crimes, including using a sex toy on his young victim and raping her in a shed.
The 65-year-old has now been jailed after the jury delivered a guilty verdict, Derbyshire Live has reported.
Jailing him for 16 years at Derby Crown Court, Judge Nirmal Shant QC said of White’s victim: “As she said in her victim personal statement everything you did has blighted her for the rest of her life.
“It has affected her personal relationships and has affected her personal and private persona. To say you have blighted her life in every way is an understatement.”
The perverted pensioner’s actions left the victim with what prosecutor Julia King called “severe psychological harm” after he “degraded and humiliated her”.
Even when the girl, who is now an adult, showed the strength and bravery to report how she had been sexually abused, he denied everything forcing her to relive her ordeal in the witness box at his trial.
But a jury found him guilty of a number of child sex attack charges.
The trial heard how the sex attacks on the girl happened when she was aged under 16.
She described from the witness box in full the sexual abuse she suffered at the hands of White.
It included him using the sex toy on her and raping her in the shed.
An NSPCC spokesman said afterward: ‘This case is yet another harrowing example of the effect child sexual abuse can have on victims.
‘It can ruin childhoods and the effects can last long into adulthood.
‘The courage of the woman who reported White’s unforgivable actions cannot be understated.
This sentence shows that no matter when the abuse happened, pedophiles like White can still face the justice they deserve and we would encourage anyone who has experienced abuse to speak up and seek support.’
White, whose birth name is Michael, previously made headlines in 2017 claiming the collection was the largest haul on the planet.
