Robert Lowery Wiki – Robert Lowery Biography
Robert Lowery was a Texas man who went missing on August 20, according to volunteer groups with Teton County Search & Rescue.
The body of missing Lowery has been found in Wyoming, and rescue crews are crediting the recent coverage of the Gabby Petito case with renewed interest in the case.
He was 46 years old.
Lowery, 46, of Houston, went missing Aug. 20. The man’s body was found on a steep, wooded slope in Teton Pass in western Wyoming.
How the man died wasn’t immediately apparent. Authorities notified Lowery’s family while awaiting confirmation the body was his.
Lowery was wearing a black baseball cap with a gold letter “P” and spotted in hotel camera images carrying a black duffel bag with the Nike logo. Searchers in a popular canyon trail area said they found a bag matching that description with the body, far off the track.
An investigation into Lowery’s whereabouts has been ongoing with the Teton County Sheriff’s Office. Still, tips that Lowery may have been on the Black Canyon Trail in Teton Pass prompted a new search effort. On Tuesday, 25 volunteers and search dogs began combing through the thick timbered area surrounding Black Canyon, a popular hiking and mountain biking trail.
At around 1 p.m., after four hours of searching on foot, a team with a search dog found a body fitting Lowery’s description on a steep, timbered slope off-trail. Collectively, Teton County SAR says volunteers hiked more than 75 miles and covered 22,500 feet in elevation.
News coverage of Gabby Petito, 22, who went missing on a cross-country road trip and whose body was found near Grand Teton National Park on Sept. 19, sometimes mentioned Lowery’s disappearance. That prompted at least two people to call authorities with information about Lowery, searchers said Tuesday.
Authorities are awaiting verification that the body is that of Lowery, but his family has been notified. The cause of his death is currently unknown.
