Atlanta-Area Asian Spa Shooting
Deputies were called to Young’s Asian Massage near Acworth about 5 p.m. ET Tuesday, Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Howard J. Baker told CNN.
Authorities said four people – including two women of Asian descent, one white woman, and one white man – were killed and a Hispanic man was hurt after a gunman opened fire, The Washington Post reported.
Nearly an hour later, Atlanta police responded to two Piedmont Road spas, where four women of Asian descent had been shot and killed – three at Gold Spa and one at Aromatherapy Spa, according to WSB-TV.
Authorities have yet not released the names of the victims.
The Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office took to Facebook to share surveillance images of the suspect outside the Acworth spa minutes before the shooting.
Authorities continued to search for the suspect, whom deputies later identified as Long, WSB-TV reported. He was believed to be driving a dark Hyundai Tucson with tag number RZR8983, according to the news outlet.
Police said video footage also showed Long’s vehicle near the Atlanta spas at the time of the shootings, The Associated Press reported.
Robert Aaron Long Arrested
Georgia State Patrol and the Crisp County Sheriff’s Office received a tip at about 8 p.m. that Long was driving down the interstate and headed into the county.
Troopers and deputies stationed along the interstate and contacted Long at about 8:30 p.m. Law enforcement performed a pursuit-intervention technique, or PIT maneuver, to stop the vehicle, “which caused the vehicle to spin out of control.”
Crisp County Sheriff Billy Hancock described Long’s apprehension during a press conference shortly after he was taken into custody.
“The suspect was taken into custody without incident at mile marker 93 in Crisp County, and transported to the Crisp County Jail,” Hancock said.
His Facebook Posts also indicate he attended the church with his mom, dad, and his younger sister. His mother organized events at the church, like a movie night with a cotton candy machine.
