Myles Cosgrove Wiki – Myles Cosgrove Bio
Myles Cosgrove is one of the three white Louisville Metro Police Department officers involved in the fatal shooting of Breonna Taylor. The victim was a 26-year-old African-American emergency room technician for the University of Louisville Jewish Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky, United States.
The Louisville Metro Police Department fired Myles Cosgrove, who was involved in the botched raid that resulted in Breonna Taylor’s death and, in part, launched a summer of protests, authorities said.
Det. Joshua Jaynes also fired with Cosgrove.
He is 43 years old.
Myles Cosgrove Fired Over Breonna Taylor Shooting
Detectives Joshua Jaynes and Myles Cosgrove learned last week that the department intended to fire them, and those terminations became official on Tuesday, according to a letter from Louisville Metro Police Department Chief Yvette Gentry to the officers.
Cosgrove violated standard operating procedures for deadly force and failure to activate his body-worn camera, the chief said.
Investigators said Cosgrove fired 16 rounds into the apartment after the front door was breached and Taylor’s boyfriend fired a shot at them. Federal ballistics experts said they believe the shot that killed Taylor came from Cosgrove.
Gentry wrote that Cosgrove failed to “properly identify a target” when he fired, according to media reports of the letter, which has not been released.
Joshua Jaynes Also Fired From Job
Jaynes was fired for two departmental violations tied to his work securing the search warrant for the deadly March 13 raid, according to Gentry.
Jaynes and Cosgrove have been on administrative reassignment, along with another officer who was at the raid, Sgt. Jonathan Mattingly. Mattingly was shot in the leg by Taylor’s boyfriend, who said he thought an intruder was breaking into the home.
Another officer, Brett Hankison, was fired in June by then-interim Police Chief Robert Schroeder, who said Hankison “wantonly and blindly” shot 10 rounds of gunfire into Taylor’s apartment. His termination letter said Hankison violated the rule against using deadly force.
