A man is dead, and a 2-month-old girl is in critical condition after a shooting at home in Alabama Sunday morning, according to the Tuscaloosa County Sheriff’s Office.

The sheriff’s office said the shooting happened around 9:15 a.

m. in the 4400 Block of 20th Street NE.

When deputies arrived, the sheriff’s office said they found 53-year-old Willie Haywood Jr. dead inside the home along with the 2-month-old child who had been shot.

Lashana Henderson Arrested

The sheriff’s office said the child’s mother, 25-year-old Lashana Henderson, was detained following the shooting.

The sheriff’s office said Henderson told authorities she was engaged in a domestic argument with Haywood when armed herself with a pistol.

The sheriff’s office determined that Henderson fired the pistol at Haywood while holding the child, and both were struck with gunfire.

The 2-month-old was taken to Children’s Hospital.

Warrants were obtained, and Henderson was charged with capital murder for Haywood.


The sheriff’s office said the capital murder enhancement results from Haywood being killed in the presence of a child for which he was a parent or legal guardian under the age of 14.

The sheriff’s office said Henderson was also charged with Domestic Violence 1st Degree (Assault 1st degree) for causing severe injuries to her child using a deadly weapon.

Henderson has no bond on the capital murder charge and a $60,000 bond for the assault 1st charge.
