Jennifer Arnold is a former Annapolis High School teacher, was arrested Friday after a lengthy investigation into her relationship with a former student at the school.
Ms. Arnold is charged with the sex abuse of a minor, 3rd-degree sex offense, and 4th-degree sex offense involving a person in the position of authority.
She is 41 years old.
Sex Abuse Charges
Police wrote in charging documents that a former student told his mother that he had a sexual relationship with Arnold when he was 15 and 16yearsold. Arnold was the former student’s legal guardian at the time — from November 2019 to February this year.
Anne Arundel police and the Department of Social Services were notified about a possible sex offense involving Arnold and the former student on July 6. In July, Arnold had been employed as an English and special education teacher at Annapolis High since 2015, was removed from the school when police started investigating the sex abuse complaint.
The 17-year-old student, who now lives out of state, told detectives in an interview in late July that he had inappropriate sexual contact with Arnold when he attended Annapolis High, police said. He reported being sexually abused multiple times a week.
The teen provided police with more than a hundred text messages between him and Arnold’s verified phone number that included discussions of sex or topics that were “sexually driven,” police wrote.

Arnold filed a complaint with Anne Arundel County police on Aug. 25, claiming that the teen raped her multiple times and was “sexually aggressive” toward her, the officer wrote in charging documents.
“Jennifer Arnold then described an involved incident claiming [the teen] displayed aggressive behaviors while he pursued her sexually,” Det. Derrick Graham wrote in charging documents. “(She) advised there were multiple rapes but could only give details about the one.”
Arnold could not provide clear answers about the sexual text messages with the teen, police wrote.
The teenager lived with alternative guardians instead of his mother for five years before Arnold approached the teen’s great uncle’s house in May 2019. Arnold, the teen’s ninth-grade English teacher at Annapolis High, offered the teen a room to stay in at her house. At the end of the 2018-2019 school year, he moved in police wrote in charging documents.
Arnold was “taken into custody without incident” after the investigation, which also involved interviewing her and “other potential witnesses.”
