Minnesota authorities expanded their search Tuesday morning in hopes of finding a toddler who disappeared Monday while out with family at Rosland Park in Edina.
According to officials, Iklas Abdullahi Ahmed was last seen with her family off of 4300 West 66th Street at around 5 p.m. Monday. Police said the girl might have wandered off on her own.
After searching the park Monday, police expanded the search Tuesday to include the surrounding areas.
“This doesn’t mean our missing child is here within the immediate area,” Edina Police Chief Todd Milburn said, ABC 5 reports.
Residents in the surrounding areas are asked to check their lawns, homes, vehicles, and anywhere a 2-year-old could possibly hide.
Family members told police that the toddler is autistic and non-verbal. She may not respond if someone calls out to her.
Edina police said Tuesday that the girl is autistic and nonverbal and has an attraction to water. They provided an additional description of the girl’s clothing. She was wearing a yellow top, blue leggings, and pink shoes.
Officials told reporters that more than 150 people are searching for the girl now.
Police said they have enough resources at Rosland Park but are asking nearby residents to search their properties in areas that may not be obvious, such as under decks, window wells, and sheds.
Rosland Park remains closed and West 66th Street is closed between Valley View Road and West Shore Drive, officials said.
Anyone who has seen the girl or has information is asked to call Edina police at 952-826-1600. Officials are also asking anyone who was at the park at the time to call.
The search for a missing 2-year-old Minnesota girl with autism ended Tuesday afternoon when the toddler’s body was found near Rosland Park in Edina.
The body of Iklas Abdullahi Ahmed was found in the water not far from where she went missing while on an outing with her family, KTSP reported.
