The days-long search for Tia Bynum, a former Baltimore County police officer who abducted her daughters, ended tragically on Thursday when the former officer, a department sergeant, and the girls were shot dead in western Maryland, WJZ found out.
Sources told WJZ Robert Vicosa, his six and 7-year-old daughters Amna and Guyana, and Sergeant. Tia Bynum was found dead inside a sports utility vehicle in Smithsburg with bullet wounds that spread after four days of crime on state lines.
Maryland State Police spokeswoman Elena Russo said Pennsylvania State Police chased a car Thursday afternoon that matched the details of a suspicious vehicle. The vehicle traveled south on Ringgold Pike on the Maryland-Pennsylvania line, where Maryland State Police was waiting.
Russo said the car veered off the road and crashed into a fence near Smithsburg, Maryland. Police then cordoned off the vehicle.

Her age is unclear.
Family
Vicosa has been on the run since Monday when he allegedly attacked his foreign wife at his family home in Pennsylvania, took her captive, and fled with the couple’s daughters.
The former police officer, who was fired from the Baltimore County Police Department in August, was wanted on various charges, including kidnapping, armed robbery, simple assault, and robbery, according to police.

Rousseau said state troops were unable to reach anyone in the vehicle. Around 2:30 p.m., crisis negotiators made another attempt but failed. Earlier respondents allegedly could not distinguish what was happening due to the “thick layer of smoke.”
Maryland State Police have not identified any passengers in the vehicle due to an ongoing investigation. Rousseau did not say whether any officers were fired.
Suspect
Bynum, who is suspected of helping police evade Vicosa, was wanted in serious illegal detention. He was suspended after Baltimore County Police learned of his involvement.
The search for Vicosa took a new turn on Wednesday when armed carjacking was reported in the Cookies Will area. Police say Vicosa and Bynum kidnapped a man at gunpoint and forced him to drive before letting him go.
The man, who spoke exclusively to WJZ on Thursday, could not comment further on what happened due to an active investigation.
“I’m a little tired,” said the man. “I’m worried about the kids, these pretty girls.”
Investigation
Investigators believe Vicosa was assisted by a Baltimore County police sergeant and close friend, Tia Bynum, who was suspended from her job in response to her involvement in the case.
Vicosa’s phone was traced from her home, and she became part of the investigation. Police said Benam was “less frequent” during an interview Monday, which did not allow her to search her home. When police returned to Bainham’s home on Tuesday, they found him and his car missing.
According to court documents reviewed by the WJZ, Vicosa and Bynum conspired to terrorize Vicosa’s foreign spouse inside her home over the weekend. According to court documents, the couple drugged him, tied him up, and left him home for hours. Both children were at home at the time.
