Dylan Harrison, Georgia police officer who was shot and killed while working his first shift on Saturday, leaving behind a wife and 6-month-old baby.
At a news conference, he was shot and killed outside of the Alamo police station around 1 a.m. Saturday, Georgia Bureau of Investigation [GBI] spokeswoman Natalie Ammons.
He was 26 years old,
Harrison, a native of Dudley, was working his first part-time shift with the Alamo Police Department when he was killed. He had been working in law enforcement since 2018 and was also employed full-time with the GBI drug task force in Eastmond, authorities said.
Law enforcement didn’t give details about what led to the shooting. However, they have named a suspect: 43-year-old Damian Ferguson, who also goes by Luke Ferguson.
GBI spokeswoman Natalie Ammons said Harrison’s body was taken to the GBI Crime Lab for an autopsy. During the 2:30 p.m. news conference Saturday, October 9, she said that the investigation is “very active” and that apprehending Ferguson is a top priority.
GBI has offered a $17,500 reward for any information leading to Ferguson’s arrest. Authorities also issued a statewide “blue alert,” published as a warning of the suspect on the loose who has killed an officer and may be a danger to the community.
“Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Ferguson or with any information you think may be pertinent to this investigation should contact us,” Ammons said.
The investigation remains “very active,” she said.

Harrison was a husband and father to a 6-month-old boy, officials said. The family lived in Dudley, Georgia, officials said at the news conference. Officials noted that Harrison also worked as a full-time Oconee Drug Task Force agent in Dodge County, Georgia.
Many police departments in Georgia and throughout the country wrote tributes on social media to the fallen officer.
Social media was flooded with condolences for the family of Harrison in the hours after his death. Among those was a post from The Georgia Department of Public Safety, who wrote a tribute to Harrison on Twitter.
“We are deeply saddened to hear of the loss of Alamo Police Department’s Officer killed in the line of duty early this morning,” Georgia DPS wrote on Twitter. “We send our thoughts and prayers to the Officer’s family, blood and blue.”

Georgia Governor Brian P. Kemp also wrote a tribute for Harrison on Twitter.
