Daniel Cauich Is a burglary defendant awaiting trial released from jail this month by a judge who repeatedly stabbed a 94-year-old woman in San Francisco’s Lower Nob Hill on Wednesday morning and now faces attempted murder charges, authorities said.
He was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, elder abuse, committing a felony while on bail or release, as well as other charges in what police called an “unprovoked” attack. Prosecutors said they would make a charging decision by Thursday night.

Daniel Cauich Stabbed 94 Years old Woman
Police received a stabbing report at 10:15 a.m. and found the victim suffering from multiple stab wounds, police said. They rendered emergency aid, and she was rushed to a hospital.
Officers rendered aid to the woman, and medics arrived to take her to a local hospital where she is expected to survive.
Family and friends identified the victim as 94-year-old Anh Taylor, a four-decade resident of San Francisco of Chinese-Viet<UNK> descent.

“I visit with her once, twice a week, we hang out. It’s just sad that someone would be such a monster and so cruel,” said Miranda Benvenuti, a neighbor of the victim, told KPIX 5.
Arrested
Investigators located a picture of the suspect and circulated it to all sworn officers, which led them to identify Cauich as the attacker. At about 11:45 a.m., officers found Cauich at the 1300 block of Clay Street in the Nob Hill neighborhood and took him into custody.
Investigators said they are still working to determine whether the attack was motivated by race. The victim is Asian.
Officers also found a knife near the crime scene that was believed to have been used in the stabbing.
Cauich was booked on charges of attempted homicide, battery with serious injury, elder abuse, and committing a felony while on bail or release. He also was charged with a bodily injury enhancement and a probation violation.
Investigation
Investigators were working to determine if race was a motivating factor in the unprovoked attack.
The stabbing comes about a month after another unprovoked stabbing attack in the city where two Asian women were stabbed while waiting for a bus on Market St. A suspect was also arrested in that case.
