Claire Wright died after partner Warren Martin Coulton fell asleep while she was still restrained and suffocated.

She had been tied up by her partner Warren Martin Coulton at the Herons Lake Retreat near Caerwys in July 2018 before her mouth was covered.

But the 52-year-old, who had been drinking and taking drugs, fell asleep while Claire was still restrained, and she suffocated.

She was 38 years old.

Claire Wright Killed By Lover

Coulton, of Baildon near Bradford in West Yorkshire, found her dead when he woke up but fled the scene before staff at the lodge discovered her body.

It was later determined she had died from asphyxia.

Trial

Today a jury at Mold Crown Court found Coulton guilty of the manslaughter by gross negligence of mum-of-two Claire.

The judge Mr. Justice Simon Picken, sentenced Coulton, of Buck Lane, Baildon, near Bradford, to six years in prison.

In a statement released after the verdict, detective constable Lee Harshey-Jones, of North Wales Police said: “This was a tragic and needless death of a woman described by her friends and family as being a loving and caring mother.

“Coulton had a responsibility to look after Claire’s welfare, and he failed to do so with tragic consequences.

“It was Coulton’s failure and lack of care towards Claire which ultimately led to her untimely death.

“Today, the court has recognized this failure, and he has been sentenced having been found guilty of manslaughter with gross negligence.

“I would like to take this opportunity to express my sincere condolences to the family and friends of Claire.

“Incidents of this nature are sporadic in North Wales.

“Today’s verdict demonstrates that we will leave no stone unturned in bringing the perpetrators of such crimes to justice.”
