Brian Boyd, who allegedly struck actress Lisa Banes in a hit-and-run crash, is escorted from the 20th Precinct station on August 6, 2021.
Law enforcement sources said that Boyd, an Upper West Sider who lives on the same corner as the deadly June 4 collision, was charged with leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death and failing to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk.
He is 26 years old.
Lisa Banes Killing
On June 4, 2021, Banes was struck by a motorized scooter in a hit-and-run collision on the Upper West Side of Manhattan. She was admitted to Mount Sinai Morningside Hospital with a traumatic brain injury and died there on June 14 at 65.
Banes suffered a deadly traumatic brain injury when hit by a red and black Fairthorpe motorcycle allegedly crewed by Boyd on Amsterdam Avenue at West 64th Street.
The 65-year-old actress was visiting from Los Angeles and on her way to meet a friend for dinner.
Brian Boyd Arrested
Patrol cops who recognized Boyd from a wanted poster made the arrest, according to the sources.
Boyd is charged with leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death and failure to yield to a pedestrian.
He was believed to have driven a scooter through a red light near Amsterdam Avenue and West 64th Street on the Upper West Side of Manhattan on June 4, striking Ms. Banes, 65, as she crossed the street.
Ms. Banes died ten days later, on June 14, from head injuries she sustained in the crash.
The police said that Mr. Boyd fled the scene of the collision. Officers on Thursday recognized Mr. Boyd, who resides on the Upper West Side of Manhattan near the intersection where the crash occurred, from a wanted poster. The police said they took him into custody in the lobby of a nearby building around 6:30 p.m.
On Friday, it was unclear whether Mr. Boyd had retained a lawyer, and family members for Mr. Boyd could not immediately be reached. It did not appear that he had been previously arrested in New York City, the police said.
