A motive for the shooting is unknown, and police and local FBI officials are continuing to investigate. According to the Associated Press, authorities searched Hole’s home in Indianapolis and seized evidence, including “desktop computers and other electronic media,” according to the Associated Press.

Indianapolis police said earlier that they had not yet discovered the gunman’s motive for opening fire with a rifle late Thursday night at a FedEx processing center near the Indianapolis airport.

The shooter started randomly firing at people in the parking lot and then went into the building and continued shooting, said Deputy Police Chief Craig McCartt.

He said the shooter killed himself shortly before police entered the building.

Investigation

Authorities were still working to notify all the victims’ families by late Friday afternoon. They had not yet been identified.

The suspect’s house was being searched by the FBI, which is also conducting interviews, according to Paul Keenan, the special agent in charge of the Indianapolis field office.
FedEx CEO Frederick W. Smith said the eight killed were company employees.

“This is a devastating day, and words are hard to describe the emotions we all feel,” he said in a statement.

“I want to express my deepest sympathies to the families, friends, and co-workers of those team members,” he said, adding that counselors were on-site at the facility to provide support.
