Computer programming student at Texas A&M University is in critical condition and not showing brain activity Tuesday after having several heart attacks during the deadly Astroworld festival’s crowd surge on Friday, local news station KTRK first reported.
In her final year at Texas A&M, Shahani attended the festival with her sister, Namrata Shahani, and her cousin, Mohit Bellani.

Bharti Shahani Suffered Multiple Heart Attacks
According to the outlet, Bharti, her sister Namrata Shahani and cousin Mohit Bellani attended the concert together but lost when the crowd surged. Namrata and Bellani both lost their cell phones and couldn’t find Bharti.
“Once we let go of her hand, the next time we saw her, we were in the ER,” Namrata said.
Bharti was taken to Houston Methodist Hospital by ambulance, and she was given CPR on the way there. Her family tells the outlet she had suffered multiple heart attacks.

When her parents learned the news, they rushed to multiple area hospitals before finding Bharti.
“The doctors, they say the chances of survival are nothing, which I have not even spoken to my wife until now. We keep saying we’ll pray,” her father, Sunny Shahani, told ABC. “I request all of Houston to pray for her. Maybe the prayers might work as a miracle for her.”
Condition
The family’s legal team did not immediately respond to Insider’s request for comment.
Bellani also told KTRK that Bharti lost oxygen for minutes – 10 minutes, followed by 7 minutes – swelling her brain.
“The doctors, they say the chances of survival are nothing, which I have not even spoken to my wife until now. We keep saying we’ll pray,” Bharti’s father, Sunny Shahani said to KTRK. “I request all of Houston to pray for her. Maybe the prayers might work as a miracle for her.”
Bharti’s father told KTRK that she had just secured an internship for the summer after her graduation this upcoming spring. She was supposed to take over the family’s company one day.
The family created a GoFundMe and is asking for donations and prayers.
The Houston Police Department, Score more Shows, and Live Nation did not immediately respond to Insider’s request for comment.
