Ava White has died after suffering “catastrophic injuries” during an argument in a city center.

White was with friends in Liverpool when she was assaulted at 20:40 GMT on Thursday.

The young girl was given first aid by a public member and was later taken to Alder Hey Children’s Hospital, where she died.

Officers were called to the scene on Church Street at 8.39 pm following reports of an assault.

When they arrived, they found the girl, who had been with friends, had already collapsed.

Merseyside Police assistant chief constable Jon Roy said officers believe the victim and her friends had been involved in an argument before she was attacked.

He said: “Our thoughts and condolences go out to Ava’s family, who are being supported by specialist family liaison officers.

“Their world has been torn apart, and no parent should ever have to face that knock on the door from police officers to say that their child has died.

“We believe that Ava and her friends had been involved in a verbal argument which culminated in Ava being assaulted causing catastrophic injuries.”

Suspects Arrested

The four boys – a 13-year-old, two 14-year-olds, and a 15-year-old – remain in police custody for questioning.

Sarah Doyle, the assistant mayor of Liverpool, said she was “heartbroken” by the news of Ava’s death.

“I know the news of this tragedy will shake communities across our city,” she added.

“We will do all we can to support the city and those affected over the coming weeks.”

Posting on Twitter, Dame Rachel de Souza, children’s commissioner for England, said: “This kind of violence involving a child and with such tragic consequences is shocking at any time, but when the victim is 12 it’s particularly so.”

A spokesman for Ava’s school, Notre Dame Catholic College in Everton, said the staff supported students.
