Andrew Merriam is a native of Hudson, Massachusetts. He is accused of trying to kidnap an 11-year-old girl in Worcester Sunday night first approached the child asking if she wanted to see his dog, police said.
Merriam was charged with enticing a child, attempting to commit a crime, and assault and battery.

Try To Kidnap A Girl
Officers were called around 7:55 p.m. Sunday for a report of an attempted abduction. Officers learned the girl was able to escape and had run to a nearby business for help.
Investigators said a man, later identified as 51-year-old Andrew Merriam of Hudson, Massachusetts, approached the girl and asked if she wanted to see his dog.
“Mr. Merriam then grabbed the victim and prevented her from leaving,” according to police. “The victim attempted to break free from Mr. Merriam several times but was unsuccessful. The victim was able to escape when she kicked Mr. Merriam.”
The girl ran to a nearby business to call for help. She gave the police a description of the suspect.
Andrew Merriam Arrested
As a K-9 officer headed to the scene, he spotted a man fitting Merriam’s description walking down Vernon Street toward Kelley Square.
“When the officer approached Mr. Merriam, he became confrontational,” police said. “The officer radioed for assistance. Mr. Merriam was then taken into custody. The second male who was at the scene was not located.”
The officer radioed for assistance, and Merriam was taken into custody.
Investigation
Stacer said the girl positively identified Merriam after he was arrested.
Merriam’s defense attorney said his client “categorically denies the allegations” and said he had just a brief, verbal exchange and that was it.
The judge set bail at $1,000 cash.
The other man, who has not been found, is described as a Black man, who is possibly balding and was wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt
