Andrew Lloyd murdered his girlfriend Rebecca Lewis’s 13-month-old baby son Aaron Gilbert, after subjecting him to a four-week catalogue of brutality back in 2005 in Swansea.

A Swansea Crown Court jury had found Lewis guilty of failing to protect her son from violent, drug-taking Lloyd at their home in Gwylfa Road, Townhill.
Lloyd Killed His Girlfriend’s Child
Lloyd, from Townhill, Swansea was jailed for life at Swansea Crown Court in October 2006 after admitting the murder.
Aaron was the son of Lloyd’s girlfriend Rebecca Lewis, who became the first Brit to be jailed for familial homicide on the basis that she failed to prevent his death.
Lloyd beat the baby so badly a neighbour said the child “looked like the Elephant Man”.
A senior nurse told Swansea Crown Court that when little Aaron Gilbert was fighting for life in an emergency room Lloyd was outside “grinning and laughing”.
Doctors found 50 separate injuries on Aaron’s body including a bite mark to the face and a serious skull fracture.
The jury has been told Lloyd swung baby Aaron around by the ankles as the toddler screamed and cried then said: “this will toughen him up”.
Aaron died from “blunt force injuries to his head”.
When the trial began Lloyd denied murder and Aaron’s mother Rebecca Louise Lewis, 21, denied the relatively new charge of familial homicide – but later changed his plea to guilty.
Opening the case, Paul Lewis QC, alleged that Lloyd systematically abused Aaron over a number of weeks.
Aaron died at a time Lloyd was living with Lewis after the break-up of her relationship with the child’s father.
