A Stray bullet killed a Alva Besst as he drove on Chicago’s South Side, police said.
He was in a vehicle in the Bridgeport neighborhood around 6 p.m. Tuesday when gunfire pierced the rear window and struck him in the back of his head, police said. His vehicle then collided with a snowbank.

Gunfire erupted in the city’s Bridgeport neighborhood Tuesday, claiming the life of a man, who police say was an unintended target.
The medical examiner has identified the man as 68-year-old Alva Besst.

According to police, Besst was in his vehicle traveling eastbound on 31st when shots rang around 7:30 p.m. Gunfire pierced the back window of his vehicle, striking him in the head.
Police Report
Police say Besst then collided with a snow bank in the 800 block of West 31st Street.
He was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
He was not the intended target of the shooting, police said.
Authorities said Besst was rushed to Stroger Hospital in critical condition and was pronounced dead at 6:42 p.m., according to the medical examiner’s office.
Police said he was not the target.
